Pregabalin is a depressant and anxiolytic substance of the gabapentinoid class, structurally related to GABA. First synthesized in 1990 and marketed under the trade name Lyrica in 2005, it is commonly prescribed for neuropathic pain, anxiety, epilepsy, and fibromyalgia. Compared to the related compound gabapentin, pregabalin offers greater bioavailability and potency. It is also used recreationally for its reported euphoric, anxiolytic, and pro-social properties.
