Lisdexamfetamine is a central nervous system stimulant of the amphetamine class, designed as a prodrug of dextroamphetamine. First approved by the FDA in 2007, it was specifically formulated to deter non-oral abuse by requiring metabolic conversion to release its active component. Prescribed for ADHD and binge eating disorder, it produces typical amphetamine effects including stimulation, focus enhancement, and euphoria, but with slower onset and longer duration than conventional amphetamines. Despite its anti-abuse design, it retains significant dependence potential.
