Alexander Shulgin developed it, later included it in PiHKAL, and it appeared in the scientific literature around 1990. He counted it among his "magical half-dozen" - the phenethylamines he regarded as most significant. The compound is especially sensitive to dose, and users often describe prominent visuals alongside a heavy somatic load.
