Moclobemide is a reversible inhibitor of monoamine oxidase A (RIMA) primarily used for depression and social anxiety. Unlike irreversible MAOIs, it has significantly lower tyramine interaction risk and does not require strict dietary restrictions at therapeutic doses, though caution is still advised. The drug has minimal anticholinergic, cardiovascular, and cognitive side effects, making it suitable for elderly patients. It is considered safe in overdose when taken alone, but potentially fatal when combined with serotonergic agents. Not approved in the United States.
