LSA is a naturally occurring psychedelic alkaloid of the lysergamide family, found primarily in morning glory and Hawaiian baby woodrose seeds. Structurally related to LSD, it was first assayed for human activity by Albert Hofmann in 1947. Its traditional use by indigenous Mexican peoples dates back to Aztec times, as documented by Richard Schultes in 1941. LSA is reported to produce mental effects resembling LSD, though with notably diminished visual activity.
