Tapentadol

Tapentadol is a centrally-acting synthetic opioid analgesic of the phenylpropylaminopentane class. First approved by the FDA in 2008, it possesses a dual mechanism of action as both a mu-opioid receptor agonist and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. Its analgesic potency falls roughly between tramadol and morphine. Tapentadol carries a high addiction potential and significant risk of respiratory depression in overdose; combining it with other depressants or stimulants is strongly discouraged.
