• What is Heavy Metals Test 5-in-1 for?

  The 5-in-1 Heavy Metals Test contains a colorimetric reagent ideal for quickly and preliminarily confirming the presence of the most common heavy metals. It is used to positively identify cadmium, mercury, lead, copper, and zinc, as well as to rule out other, less predictable, unwanted substances.

  The reagents can indicate the PRESENCE of these metals, but not the QUANTITY. Mixtures can be reliably detected with reagents only if one of the substances produces a stronger color reaction. To identify all components with maximum precision, a set of different tests is required.

• What is included in Heavy Metals Test 5-in-1?

  The Heavy Metals Test 5-in-1 includes a two-part colorimetric reagent, a micropipette, a reaction tube, and instructions. The kit contains enough reagent for at least one test. The tightly sealed plastic container protects the reagent from light and moisture, ensuring a shelf life of at least 3 years after purchase.

• What can be tested with Heavy Metals Test 5-in-1?

  Only liquid samples can be tested – when testing solids, mix them with 4 ml of bottled water and filter out the solid particles. You can test herbs, powders, water, and other liquids (including breast milk, saliva, and first morning urine), food, kitchen utensils, and other objects, including toys and paints. If testing food, blend it and extract the juices. When testing fish, heat a raw sample in a microwave for 20 seconds to collect the juices.

  The sample’s pH should be close to 5.0; strongly acidic or alkaline substances cannot be tested. The test works best at 5 PPM or higher of heavy metals, but it may detect as little as 1 PPM or less.

• How to use Heavy Metals Test 5-in-1?

  PREPARE THE REAGENT

  From the test kit, take out the small vial with the dry reagent and the larger tube with the liquid reagent. Pour the contents of the small vial into the larger tube to combine both parts of the reagent, close the tube, and shake for 10 seconds.

  ADD THE SAMPLE

  Immediately add the sample to the prepared reagent solution: 4 ml of liquid, or a solution made by mixing a dry sample with 4 ml of bottled water. 4 ml corresponds to one full volume of the included micropipette. The micropipette can be used several times to conveniently transfer the 4 ml. Filter or carefully decant the solution to avoid adding any undissolved particles into the reagent tube. Close the tube and shake for 5 seconds to mix the sample with the reagent solution.

  OBSERVE FOR 60 MINUTES

  Place the small tube upright with the cap facing down, so the rounded end points up, and observe the color change reaction for 60 minutes. Both the initial colors right after adding the sample and the transitional and final colors are important. Take photos during the reaction.

  COMPARE RESULTS

  Compare with the expected results provided in the instructions. Ignore any color changes after 60 minutes unless otherwise specified. Match the observed color change with the guide.   Seal the used materials inside the plastic tube and dispose of them safely.

• How to handle reagents?

  Reagents contain toxic and/or corrosive chemicals, strong enough to burn skin and clothing. Keep out of the eyes and mouth. Keep away from children and animals. Always use in a well-ventilated area. Wear gloves and protective eyewear. Never point towards the face etc. If you get some on you/clothing, then immediately wash with lots of soap and water. Dispose of any unwanted reagent with running water, ventilate. Store reagents standing up and away from heat in a cool, dark place.

  Reagents deteriorate with time or due to contact with air, especially if exposed to sunlight or not refrigerated. If you are uncertain whether the reagent will work, test it with an already confirmed sample.
