Drug Purity Report Week 35, 2026
Drug Purity Report #35/26. Welcome to “last week on drugs”, the blog post series by PRO Test bringing you weekly reporting on drug market purity. In this week’s edition: red alert PMMA warnings from the Netherlands, new benzodiazepines and spotlight on amphetamine impurities.
Data fatigue is real, so here we come to give you the gist of what’s going on out there. For more details, photos, and other information on thousands of drugs, head out straight to the DrugsPRO app.
- Many ecstasy pills pressed with a particularly ugly Donald Trump’s face are found to contain PMMA instead of MDMA. On 28 August the Trimbos Institute issued a national Red Alert over them. Three reached this week’s data, in blue and yellow, green and pink and red, all reported by Trimbos in the Netherlands. All drug checking alerts published are warnings, we recommend using a test kit to learn more about a particular sample. PMMA comes up far more slowly than MDMA, so the usual mistake is taking a second pill while the first is still climbing, which can easily end in fatal overheating. Sixteen samples have held PMMA so far in 2026, the Trump presses now joining the Red Bull pills from July and a white Mitsubishi found the day before this alert.
- Three of the ten most searched substances this week were benzodiazepines that barely registered a year ago: ethylbromazolam, bromonordiazepam and flubrotizolam. In drug checking results, one Austrian sample sold as alprazolam came back as flualprazolam, and in related news another sold as methaqualone turned out to be methoxyqualone. Sedatives sold under a familiar name often are not the thing indicated on the label. With pressed benzos, treat the name as a guess until it has been tested.
- So what is in speed that is not speed? Amphetamine purity came in at 68% this week against 61% for the twelve months before, although the quality is highly regional. In Poland for example, official police data puts the median below 20%. Detected impurities are the more interesting part, DPIA showed up in one sample and 1-PEA in three. DPIA is a byproduct of the Leuckart synthesis route, so it points at how the batch was cooked rather than at anything added afterwards. 1-PEA is closer to a filler: chemically it is a neighbour of amphetamine but with little if any of the effect. One Swiss sample sold as 4-MMC was 70% caffeine, 14% amphetamine and 13.4% 1-PEA. Across the year DPIA sits in 7.5% of amphetamine samples and 1-PEA in 6.4%, while caffeine is in more than eight of every ten.
Last Week at a Glance
- 114 samples from 7 countries (Austria, France, Germany, Netherlands, Slovenia, Spain and Switzerland) were included this week.
- 95 samples contained a quantified result, including 40 pills and 5 LSD samples.
- 38 samples contained more than one detected ingredient.
- MDMA was typically 130.5mg this week, against 160mg across the twelve months before.

Substances in Focus
Three substances covered in more detail this week: what they are, and how they are dosed and how long they last by route of administration. Doses and durations come from the DrugsPRO library and describe the substance itself, not any tested sample.
PMMA
para-Methoxymethamphetamine (also known as 4-methoxymethamphetamine, 4-MeOMA, inaccurately as "4-MMA" (which should instead be reserved for 4-MMA (4-MeMA) instead) and more commonly as PMMA) is a highly dangerous and toxic synthetic substance of the amphetamine class that is closely related to PMA. Oral
No dose range is shown for this substance. There is no dose that makes it safe, and drug-checking services advise against taking it at all.

Ethylbromazolam
Ethylbromazolam is structurally similar to bromazolam with an ethyl instead of methyl group on the triazole ring. User reports suggest approximately half the potency of bromazolam, with reportedly less sedation and amnesia than its parent compound. Read more on dose.wiki

Amphetamine
Amphetamine is a controlled substance with high abuse potential. Medical formulations include varying ratios of dextroamphetamine and levoamphetamine. Chronic use may lead to cardiovascular issues, neurotoxicity at high doses, and psychological problems including stimulant psychosis. Read more on dose.wiki

Purity and Content
Below, the big number in each row is the typical result for 24–30 August 2026: half the samples came in stronger, half weaker. The smaller one in brackets is the same thing measured over the last twelve months.
| Samples | Substance | Typical purity / content |
|---|---|---|
| 16 | MDMA | 130.5mg (160mg*) half of samples 118 to 150mg |
| 9 | Cocaine | 60% (88%*) half of samples 45 to 91% · lower than last week |
| 3 | Amphetamine | 68% (61%*) half of samples 36.5 to 76% |
| 3 | Heroin | 62% (61.6%*) half of samples 49.5 to 71% |
| 3 | LSD | 82µg (64.5µg*) half of samples 64 to 112µg |
* the 12 months before this week, not the same week a year ago
