You test them with Zimmermann and a strip, and the strip is the part that matters most. A tablet sold as a benzodiazepine can carry heroin or a nitazene instead, which stops your breathing rather than putting you to sleep, and no reagent shows you either one. The benzodiazepine kit ships with ten fentanyl strips for that reason, and nitazenes need a nitazene strip of their own. Zimmermann then confirms a benzodiazepine is present and reads clonazepam distinctively, so it separates a real tablet from the paracetamol and chlorpheniramine pressings that turn up in this market. Across 571 samples submitted as a benzodiazepine, 30% contained a second compound, and the most common thing found that was not the expected benzo was ethylbromazolam, in 62 of them.

Zimmermann rules out the tablet that contains no benzodiazepine at all, which is the paracetamol pressing and the chlorpheniramine pressing, and it identifies clonazepam distinctively. Beyond that it reports a family rather than a member. Since the designer benzodiazepines in that table are active at different doses from the pharmaceutical ones they replace, the family answer is not enough to dose on, and the honest next step is a laboratory.

Can it tell alprazolam from etizolam?
It confirms a benzodiazepine, which is the first thing to establish. Beyond that both are triazolo compounds and read alike, as do clonazolam and ethylbromazolam, so separating them is a lab analysis job.
What is ethylbromazolam?
An unlicensed research chemical benzodiazepine that has been appearing in counterfeit pharmaceutical tablets. Roughly 4 mg is comparable to 10 mg diazepam.
Is a home test worth it for benzos?
For ruling out a tablet with no benzodiazepine in it, and for the fentanyl strip, yes. For naming the compound, we recommend adding a lab analysis service.
