What is 3-MMC (metaphedrone)?

3-MMC is a potent psychoactive substance from the cathinone family. It is sold as a research chemical but is frequently used recreationally, and is also known as metaphedrone. 3-MMC is a stimulant with empathogenic effects, comparable to other cathinones such as 4-MMC (mephedrone) and 4-CMC (clephedrone).

3-MMC (3-methylmethcathinone) is a psychoactive substance belonging to the cathinone group. It is a synthetic analogue of related compounds such as mephedrone and methcathinone, and is known for its stimulating and empathogenic effects.

How does 3-MMC work?

3-MMC acts primarily on the central nervous system. It increases the availability of neurotransmitters including dopamine, serotonin and noradrenaline in the brain, which produces euphoria, stimulation and reduced fatigue. It also carries a high potential for dependence.

3-MMC: effects

  1. Euphoria and stimulation: 3-MMC often produces intense euphoria and stimulation.
  2. Heightened sensitivity: users may experience intensified sensory perception, particularly of touch and sound.
  3. Increased confidence: 3-MMC can produce a raised sense of confidence and energy.
  4. Increased alertness: users may feel heightened mental alertness.
  5. Altered perception of time: time may seem to pass more quickly than usual.
  6. Adverse effects: risks include overstimulation, anxiety and disturbed sleep.
  7. Dependence: 3-MMC has addictive potential and carries a risk of psychological dependence.

3-MMC: duration of effects

  • Comedown: the period afterwards is often marked by fatigue and lowered mood.

Mixing: 3-MMC

Is 3-MMC legal?

3-MMC is classified as a controlled substance in many countries, including Poland and the United States. In most jurisdictions it is illegal to produce, possess or distribute 3-MMC for non-medical purposes.
