How to detect nitazenes?
Etazene and its analogs are a new group of opioids found on the black market. They are generally sold as benzodiazepines (e.g., fake Xanax) or heroin and morphine, however they come with higher risks. Unlike benzodiazepines, they can easily cause respiratory failure and death, and unlike heroin and morphine, their toxicity and dosage are not well-known.
All these substances can be detected through laboratory analysis or by using colorimetric reagents in combination with purity testing using TLC-type substances. In this article, we will discuss how to detect etazene and its derivatives using colorimetric tests.

Tests for Etazene and Etazene derivatives
Etazene and its derivatives can be detected using reagents, especially the Liebermann or Morris test. The Morris test reacts with a distinctive deep blue color specifically with etazene, allowing its detection even if it is mixed with, for example, heroin. However, its analogs may not necessarily behave similarly, so this method cannot be relied upon to exclude unwanted opioids. A much more reliable approach is to use reagents for checking black market benzodiazepines. In contrast to, for example, alprazolam, most etazene derivatives show a strong reaction with the Liebermann reagent.

As mentioned above, for testing the latest generation opioids, the Liebermann and Morris reagents are most useful, but others such as Froehde can also be helpful. We especially recommend the Full Reagent Kit and Full Substance Purity Test (TLC).
